Is your business stress keeping you awake at night

How to reduce stress as a business owner

Owning a business can be stressful, especially if you are on your own.  You may feel isolated and overwhelmed and that you need to do everything yourself- with no one to bounce your ideas and concerns off.  Maybe you’ve wanted to ask for help but don’t know who to ask.  We are helping business owners just like you reduce their stress and kick overwhelm out the window.

You may need to get to grips with your tax situation to ensure that you are only paying what you need to (without nasty surprises). You may wish to take stock of where you are financially and gain a better understanding of where the business is. Or you may need help planning and prioritising the right things for your business so you can start moving the business forward.

There are many ways in which we can help you achieve this, but to start off with here are our top tips to help break overwhelm:

  1. Make a plan
Set your long-term goals and break them down into short term goals and actions.  Write them down and plan them out.  Then make sure you reflect on them weekly and that your daily tasks work towards achieving them. We can help you do this with our business planning service. Let me know if this is something you’d like to know more about.
  2. Celebrate your wins
At the end of each week, write down your biggest win of the week.  On the days when you’re feeling stressed look back at your wins for a better perspective, and reflect on how far you have come.
  3. Schedule time for yourself in your diary
Whether it’s hitting the gym, cycling, walking or running, clear your mind with exercise and time out will help you transition from ‘work’ to ‘home’.  Give the things that make you happy the priority as it will also help you be more effective at work.
  4. Turn off Technology at night
Take a tech time out before bed. Read a book or listen to a pod cast or music.  You may need to invest on an alarm clock, but leaving your phone out of the bedroom will help you relax and get a better nights sleep.
  5. Set boundaries
Decide the things hat matter the most and prioritise them.  You don’t have to be everything to everyone.  You don’t have to manage your daughters football team and join the PTFA, nor do you have to stay on the committees that are a drain on your precious time.  Learn to say no.
